Grief Project
Sometime after my father's death in July 2022, I began working on what I refer to as the "Grief Project", an exploration of abstract photography as a means of memorializing absence. During this period of bereavement, my mother has been losing her cognitive functioning and her memories to dementia--not a physical death, but a loss all the same.
Our collective story begins in india in 1963. It is a story that journeys across continents and seas in search of tolerance, opportunity, and belonging. It is a love story, built on leaps of faith and courage.
Now that I am alone, without my father’s physical presence and without my mother’s memories, what happens to this story?
These photographs are my testimony: a story told through the objects, documents, photographs, and textiles that we carried with us.
